A graphic designer's CV can be quite interesting precisely because, to talk about who we are or what we're capable of, we don't need to use the written word. In fact, the design of our CV itself can be more than just a reference point and can give many clues about the kind of designers and professionals we really are. Hence the importance of having original CVs that grab attention.
The truth is that the vast majority of us who work in the creative sector (whether we are designers, content creators, writers, or visual artists) would like to be able to use our resume as a "canvas," because without a doubt we are certain that in this way our original curriculum vitae would be accurate and precise, perhaps more so than the name of the center where we studied or even the companies we work for.
We've talked before about designing ourselves, something we do in tandem with designing our career path. This human-professional or work-related design involves many things: our work style, our tendency to choose a particular color palette in our work, our skills, our aptitudes, and our resume and portfolio. The best way to develop a good, authentic design is for all these variables to align and reflect each other. We choose the level of creativity or personal style we want to include in our original resume, and therefore how bold and daring we want to be. I say daring because we must also learn to be prepared for certain situations, especially with certain people. Incredibly, many companies looking for someone to fill a creative position that demands sharp insight reject these kinds of original resumes. Could there be a greater absurdity in this world? Probably so, but not much more far-fetched.
The truth is, if we stop to analyze it carefully, this type of behavior has its explanation and some quite reasonable arguments. First, we must consider that the recipient won't always need the best professional, and let me explain. They certainly need the best professional, but generally, in most cases, they can't afford it. I say "in most cases" because the majority of these are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), so if you decide to send a work of art as your resume to any small or medium-sized company, the human rights officers will most likely get "scared" and think they can't afford what you're worth (which, well, this will almost always be the case, but that's another story). Therefore, these kinds of creative and brilliant solutions can sometimes backfire . In these types of situations, which will be the majority, you should opt for more standard solutions, which do not have to be mediocre, and it is this type of solution that I am here to talk to you about today because they are the most effective in practical terms.
