
The 13th Huesca Comic Book Festival is now underway: Saturday September 13 el Manuel Benito Moliner Cultural Center hosts Huescómic 2025 with an uninterrupted schedule of 11:00 - 21:00The meeting includes a prologue viernes 12 in the Ramón J. This edition comes with its more ambitious programming, combining humor, manga, social narrative, digital animation and Aragonese talent. seven guest authors —Irene Márquez, Mamen Moreu, David Sancho, Alba Cardona, Joan C., Sara Soler, and Josemi Online—will share the stage with other renowned creators. Additionally, Chema Cebolla's commemorative comic book, which reimagines Miguel Servet as a bird detective, will be distributed free of charge while supplies last.
Programming and protagonists
Humor will mark one of the strong moments with the joint talk of Irene Márquez and Mamen Moreu, collaborators of ThursdayMárquez will present his compilation Death (by Irene Márquez), while Moreu will address the closing of his series with Dolores and Lolo. Closing Party; both will chat about how satire is constructed from different perspectives.
The social aspect will come with Alba Cardona y Joan C., who have worked on the hearing impairment from the manga in The Legend of Hakutaku y Okaasan. Their presentations will highlight how graphic narrative can unite action, sensitivity and improvement without losing rhythm or authenticity.
The Aragonese David SanchoWinner of FNAC International Graphic Novel Award / Salamandra Graphic by Fallow, will talk with the historian Sescún Marías about depopulation and memory in rural areas, focusing on stories that arise from experience and territory.
The closing of the day will be in charge of Josemi Online, which will project its strip-based animations spread on Instagram. It will be a lively and approachable staging for those who follow his work and for those looking for a sample of digital creativity applied to comics.
Throughout the day, the public will find a very participatory atmosphere, with queues in the talks and activities from the early hours and a constant flow of visitors in the exhibition space, proof of a particularly attractive to all types of readers.
Exhibitions and debate on artificial intelligence
On Friday the 12th, at 18:30, the Ramón J. Sender Library inaugurates the exhibition Comic Book Authors Against Generative AI, curated by Sara Soler, accompanied by the talk Can generative AI kill off comics?The exhibition, conceived as a call for reflection on the use of data and works to train algorithms, will remain open until the September 30.
El Collective of Comic Authors puts the focus on copyright protection and the need for a clear regulatory framework. The debate will recall the controversy generated by a royal decree that allowed the use of funds from the National Library to train AI systems without express consent, a measure ultimately withdrawal after mobilization of the sector.
The exhibition includes a selection of 15 of the 88 works gathered in their campaign, recognizable by the symbol “Stop AI gen”. The aim is to underline the stylistic diversity and the expressive capacity of the authors in contrast to the homogenizing tendency of certain generative models.
The organization insists on the educational dimension of the debate: to promote a critical use of these technologies to preserve the accuracy of information and the security of users. Libraries and cultural centers are claiming to be spaces for thinking and creativity shared.
They complete the exhibition tour The Ideal City, developed together with The City of Girls and Boys of Huesca —an invitation to imagine a greener, more habitable and friendly Huesca—, and Mission 1: Take Off, which presents the artistic universe of Karalang Fatty y Fabrice Ilboudo, in dialogue with new forms of visual creation.
Signatures, notable presences and editorial gifts
During the day there will be author signatures in the exhibition space, with names like David López, Aroha Travé, Álvaro Ortiz, José Antonio Bernal, Rosa Codina y Javier Marquina. It also adds Bernard Vergara, author of this edition's poster, for the meeting with attendees.
For second consecutive Year, Chema Cebolla signs the Huescómic commemorative comic, in which he transforms Michael Servetus to a bird researcher. The specimen is delivered for free to attendees while supplies last and can also be seen in exhibition format at the cultural center itself.
Organized by Huesca City Council In collaboration with Vineyard, Huescómic 2025 strengthens the city as comic book reference in Aragon and throughout the country. The main venue is the Manuel Benito Moliner Cultural Center, with free admission and activities spread throughout the day.
A full day that combines humor, social reflection, manga and animation, with exhibitions, signings and a highly anticipated editorial gift, so that both the regular public and those who come to Huescómic for the first time find a varied, current and open to all ages.
